Inspired by the remarkable Supremus series created by painter Kasimir Malevich, Rhyme Studio’s Supreme is one of three carpet or tapestry designs from the Modernity Collection. Calling upon the inspiration of pure geometric and architectural lines, the design series presents naturally dyed Irish wool in a series of sleek, minimal, design forms. A tribute to the legacies of renowned Irish designer Eileen Gray and abstract painter Kasimir Malevich, Modernity also celebrates the beauty and health-giving properties of Irish wool. One of the most important eras in the history of design, architecture and art, Modernism represented pivotal change and Malevich's groundbreaking oeuvre an artistic personification of the changing values of this time.

Viewed by many as the father of Modernist art, Kasimir Malevich considered geometric and minimal form to be divine and set out to liberate the canvas from the representational world. Supreme explores his notion of elevating the rectangle and clean line to a high art. Form & colour for Malevich was elemental and his work had an influence that reverberated throughout the creative arts including at that time upon the work of Parisian based Irish designer Eileen Gray. The design concept of this hand knotted or tufted series provided the perfect tableau to explore nuances of texture, with surface sculpting, penciling and beveling techniques. The border of each shape is painstakingly beveled to add dimension and depth, with subtle geometric sculpted surfaces to be found embedded in the occasional circle, square or triangle.

Supreme was chosen for Best In Show at NY Design Week 2021 by New York Magazine’s Design Editor Wendy Goodman, called “Multi–layered inspiration” by The New York Times and featured in “Decades of Design” Gray Magazine and “Rhyme Studio, Modernity Collection” by Cover Magazine.
